LE BARTELEUR’S INTENTION LE BARTELEUR’S INTENTION

By creating a range of premium bottled cocktails that are “ready to drink, ready to serve”, I offer individuals and companies a list of well-measured delicious cocktails ready to be savoured. Only a few ice cubes need to be added. A magic trick that only LE BARTELEUR can do. To start with, the first release will be a tribute to the classic cocktails featuring vermouth, bitter and natural ingredients.

For its first collection, I have given a new twist to the Negroni, the Manhattan and the Hanky Panky

I AM AN INVENTOR OF TASTES,
A KEY ASSET KNOWN AS LE BARTELEUR,
A JUGGLER OF FLAVOURS.
I AM AN INVENTOR OF TASTES,
A KEY ASSET KNOWN AS LE BARTELEUR,
A JUGGLER OF FLAVOURS.

Today, I am the barman, the mixologist, the creator of new combinations. I am behind new flavourful preparations. I launch ideas and convert them into real projects and secret recipes. Proud and agile behind my counter, I like to mix, measure and play with these alcoholic aromas to create new cocktails.

As the figurehead of a game which is played around the world in all cultures, I have existed and plied my trade since ancient times. My name and image have changed over the centuries.

Some called me the alchemist, the illusionist, the travelling magician, the craftsman as I master both liquid and solid materials and flavours.

My dexterity has also created my reputation as a conjurer for my sleight of hand in public and the ease with which I can move things. My keen mind is constantly seeking sensations.

LE BARTELEUR’S
NEGRONI

FLORENCE 1919

Florentine in heritage. Named after an Italian count who was a frequent visitor to the Café Casoni and was accustomed to drinking his Americano there.

In memory of trips to London, he asked the barman to add an extra measure of gin. The Negroni was born and has enjoyed global popularity ever since.

PARIS 2019

LE BARTELEUR pays tribute to this iconic drink which charmed the Florentine aristocracy a hundred years earlier. From its love for nature, it adds a personal touch through unique aromatic plants with bitter, refreshing and scented notes.

The secret of its freshness is at the heart of French gin, in fennel seeds, caraway, dill and angelica. In discreetly bitter orange which melts into the dry vermouth.

Chill with a few ice cubes and enjoy the way you like it.
To serve your pleasure.

LE BARTELEUR’S MANHATTAN

NEW YORK 1874

Created for a lady. Prepared during a banquet given by the mother of Winston Churchill at the Manhattan Club. A barman whose name has been forgotten created one of the most appreciated cocktails in New York’s high society.

A sophisticated preparation, difficult to create due to the complex mixture of ingredients, it remains one of the greats of the golden age of cocktails.

PARIS 2019

LE BARTELEUR pays tribute to this absolute classic that sophisticated and learned men drank from New York to Boston. By the dexterity and skill of sleight of hand, the ingredients are mixed artfully. Rye whisky, red vermouth and our own bitters.

The composition’s special feature is a rye whisky with vanilla and honey notes, blended with a red wine bursting with fruits such as raspberry, strawberry and sour cherry. A bouquet of spices prolongs the sensory experience.

A few ice cubes and your drink is ready.
To serve your pleasure.

LE BARTELEUR’S HANKY PANKY

LONDRES 1930

Invented on a London night. During the roaring twenties, Ada Coleman, head bartender at the Savoy Hotel, created an iconic cocktail which became an absolute reference for her peers. The cocktail was created for the actor Charles Hawtrey, who loved it. Hanky Panky was created and made to enchant.

PARIS 2019

LE BARTELEUR pays tribute to the legendary beverage that captivated Edwardian England before crossing the pond. Who better than this creative expert of magic tricks to give a twist to this intriguing “potion”, giving it a herbaceous and peppery kick?

Like an apothecary, it creates a wondrous elixir from aromatic gin, blending the freshness of lemon, mint and liquorice and the sensuality of its ginger. Sandalwood and benzoin will perfume your palate.

Serve very chilled. To serve your pleasure.

MY BOTANICAL GARDEN MY BOTANICAL GARDEN

It was only in the 19th century that botanical gardens became pleasure gardens, known as “Jardins des plantes”. My taste for nature and its aromatic and medicinal virtues has guided my creations towards botanic cocktails, obtained by macerating natural products.

AS YOU LOOK OVER MY KEY AROMATIC ASSETS,
YOU WILL DISCOVER THE SECRETS OF THEIR FLAVOURS

MY MINT

In addition to its subtle benefits for fresh breath, I use Alpine mint in my Negroni for its refreshing iced crispness and its reputation as an aphrodisiac.

MY CARAWAY

A warm seed used by past herbalists, this wild spice gives the Negroni a hint of aniseed and a stimulating effect.

MY GENTIAN

Also called Quinquina, its invigorating and digestive properties have been known since the dawn of time.
It adds a bitter note to my Negroni.

My Vanilla

A hermaphroditic flower that is pollinated by bees. Its pod releases aromas that delight the nose and the taste buds, combined with the honey notes of my Manhattan.

MY CINNAMON

One of the oldest spices in use, its bark is rich in aromatic essential oil. It is combined with cloves to warm up my Manhattan.

MY SOUR CHERRY

A tart and wild fruit full of antioxidants. Preserved in liqueur, it gives its ruby-coloured juice and unique flavour to create the signature of my Manhattan.

MY BITTER ORANGE

A fruit of the Mediterranean region, bitter orange flavours liqueurs and culinary preparations. Its delicate zest gives my Hanky Panky its kick.

MY ELIXIR

A genuine fountain of youth, this age-old herbal medicine potion is made by macerating around fifty bitter roots and herbs which boost my Hanky Panky.

MY GINGER

Its reputation to stimulate pleasure is universal. Its root warms the body. Through maceration, I extract its peppery notes in my Hanky Panky.

FOUNDERS FOUNDERS

MEN OF TASTE MEN OF TASTE

Nicolas Varnier and Philippe Di Méo met thirteen years ago among the effervescence of a major Champagne brand, blending their skills to serve the pleasures of the palate and freedom of the mind. Since then, their professional complicity has developed, drop by drop, into a celebratory friendship.

They always love to meet for a meal, where dishes are paired with wines, and wine mingles with the divine, with these combinations of flavours which succeed in avoiding the distasteful, where unexpected encounters and loyal friendships are nurtured and sensations are shared.

A LOVE OF PLAYFULNESS A LOVE OF PLAYFULNESS

“We like games in which chance plays no part. Games in which we always take the right card because it is meant for us. We prefer games in which there are established rules that we can reinvent. Games in which the shapes, colours, materials and tastes come to life through imagination. Games which encourage discovery, creation, invention, pleasure, friendship and fellowship, without moderation.

We found our joker in the cards of the Tarot de Marseille. Like a fetish, the BARTELEUR has become our fortune-teller and gives us luck in this adventure”.
